Central Regulation of Yoga-Naturopathy

Naturopathy stakeholders from across the country demanded inclusion of Yoga Naturopathy in the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Act and National AYUSH Mission (NAM).   Central law will be made on Yoga Naturopathy - Shri PratapraoJadhav  New Delhi: A special meeting was organized by Surya Foundation, the country's prestigious naturopathy organization and International Naturopathy Organization (INO) on 28 March 2025 at Deputy Chairman Hall, Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, under the chairmanship of Union Minister of AYUSH (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Shri PratapraoJadhavji, with Naturopathy - Yoga experts, stakeholders and Members of Parliament on the inclusion of Yoga Naturopathy in the National Commission for Indian Medical System (NCISM) Act and National AYUSH Mission (NAM) and the Government of India's early start of the registration process of Naturopathy doctors. In his address, Honorable AYUSH Minister Shri PratapraoJadhav said that under the leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister, the Ministry of AYUSH is making creative efforts to reach Yoga - Naturopathy to the general public. After the year 2014, many naturopathy hospitals have been built in various states of the country where people are being provided health through this effective system. During the meeting, Shri PratapraoJadhav sought suggestions from all stakeholders to include Naturopathy in the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Act and also assured that as per the major suggestions given by INO in collaboration with stakeholders, Yoga-Naturopathy will be included in the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Act and efforts will also be made to bring Yoga-Naturopathy at par with other AYUSH systems of medicine. In the meeting, Shri PratapraoJadhav also spoke on efforts to include Yoga-Naturopathy as a mandatory component in the National AYUSH Mission (NAM) and to link it with the Ayushman Bharat scheme. In the meeting, INO's National President Dr. AnantBiradar welcomed the present Members of Parliament, naturopathy experts and stakeholders and thanked the Prime Minister for giving detailed information about the various creative schemes initiated by the Modi government for the overall development and promotion of Yoga-Naturopathy, such as:- National AYUSH Mission, other projects undertaken in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Haryana, Assam, Sikkim and other states. On this occasion, he also praised the new schemes being initiated under the leadership of AYUSH Minister Shri PratapraoJadhav. In the meeting, Dr. AnantBiradar told that Yoga and Naturopathy is one of the official indigenous medical systems under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. Yoga-Naturopathy has been getting a place in the work allocation rules of the Cabinet Secretariat since 1961. In 1969, the Government of India formed a Central Council for Research in Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy (CCRIM&H) to promote research in traditional systems of medicine and in 1978, four new Central Research Councils were formed out of it- Ayurveda and Siddha (CCRAS), Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), Unani (CCRUM) and Homoeopathy (CCRH). On this occasion, respected pujya Acharya Lokesh Muni ji, Founder - Ahinsa Vishv Bharati also blessed with his valuable words  INO National President - Dr. Anant Biradar expressed regret over not making Central Regulation for Yoga-Naturopathy till now and said that thousands of naturopaths across the country are selflessly providing health to people through this drugless therapy but despite this they have not yet received recognition. On this occasion, Dr. AnantBiradar placed the matter of inclusion of 'Yoga Naturopathy' in the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Act and National AYUSH Mission (NAM) before the Honorable AYUSH Minister Shri PratapraoJadhav and said that this is the call of the heart of the naturopathy stakeholders who have come from all over the country today, which should definitely be fulfilled.  In the meeting, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, Dr. Raghavendra Rao, Director - Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), Dr. KashinathSamgandi, Director - Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), Members of Parliament Mr. Faggan Singh Kulaste, Mr. Anurag Thakur, Dr. Bhola Singh, Mr. Raju Bisht, Mr. Shankar Singh Lalwani, Mr. Ramesh Awasthi, Mrs. SmitaWagh, Mr. Haribhai Patel, Mr. ManojTigga, Mr. IrannKadadi, Mr. NileshLanke, Dr. Jayant Kumar Rai and other Members of Parliament were present and extended their support for the overall development of Yoga-Naturopathy. All the Members of Parliament present in the meeting supported the suggestions given by INO on Yoga-Naturopathy and assured to raise these issues in the Parliament. Mr. Shankar Singh Lalwani said that the suggestions given by INO are logical. The demand to include Yoga-Naturopathy in the NCISM Act is justified. Mr. NileshLanke said that he follows naturopathy as he has seen its positive results during the COVID pandemic. Therefore, naturopathy should be included in the NCISM Act. Prior to the meeting with the AYUSH Minister, a full day meeting was held with stakeholders at INO Central Office, New Delhi in which stakeholders like Dr. B T C Chidananda Murthy (Karnataka), Dr. Bharatbhai Shah (Gujarat), Dr. Jitendra Arya (Maharashtra), Dr. Vimal Kumar Modi (Uttar Pradesh), Dr. Vijayalakshmi Reddy (Telangana), Dr. S K Madhavan (Kerala), Dr. NagendraNeeraj (Uttarakhand), Dr. S N Pandey (Delhi), Dr. Amit Nagpal (Delhi), Acharya Mohan Gupta (Delhi), Dr. D N Sharma (Uttarakhand), Dr. R S Dabas (Delhi), Dr. Ramesh Tewani (Madhya Pradesh), Dr. Madan Manav (Haryana), Dr. Rajkumar (Manipur), Dr. Navdeep Joshi (Delhi), Shri ManjunathSwamy (Karnataka) etc were present. As part of the proceedings of this meeting, a resolution was passed unanimously, which was placed by INO National President Dr. AnantBiradar before the Honorable AYUSH Minister Shri PratapraoJadhav. The points passed in the resolution are as follows- 1. According to the guidelines dated 4-9-2006 issued by the Department of AYUSH, Government of India, all those naturopaths who are practicing naturopathy should be given central registration. 2. Yoga-Naturopathy medical system should be included in the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Act 2020 or a separate National Yoga-Naturopathy Medical System Commission should be constituted for Yoga-Naturopathy medical system. 3. Yoga-Naturopathy should be included in the mandatory components of National AYUSH Mission (NAM). 4. Yoga Naturopathy medical system should be included in the Ayushman Bharat scheme. 5. Grant-in-Aid for Yoga Naturopathy Hospitals should be restarted. 6. To monitor the functioning of these three autonomous institutions – Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) and National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN), a qualified person should be appointed on ad-hoc basis for the post of Advisor (Yoga – Naturopathy) in the Ministry of AYUSH, which is vacant since 2017. The stage was conducted by Dr. D N Sharma, Senior Vice President of INO. The meeting concluded with the national anthem.
